Welcome to the online home for the Shire of Loch an Fhraoich
We cordially invite you to attend
Not So Grand II
April 25-27, 2008
Please visit our "Meetings" page for important changes
regarding our meetings and fighter practices
The Shire of Loch an Fhraoich is a local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA),
a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and re-creation of life in the
Middle Ages. We are located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and we cover the
counties of Warren, Barren, Allen, Simpson, and Logan in south central Kentucky.
The SCA is divided into geographic regions, known as kingdoms, and Loch an Fhraoich
is the northernmost shire of the Kingdom of Meridies.
We love learning about the middle ages, and we have meetings, go to events, attend
classes and put on demos. Our members love to sew, weave, perform music,
participate in combat activities, cook, and many other interesting activities.
The SCA means different things to different people.
For some, it's a chance to escape to another time and forget about the rat race of
the modern world for
awhile. For many others, it is a serious educational journey. You'll
find there are lots of reasons members participate, and there is something for everyone.
The SCA is a diverse group, where you will find people of different races and cultures,
economic and educational backgrounds, and a wide range of ages. We even have
activities for children.
You're invited to attend our meetings and other events. You don't even have to
be a member to do so (but if you attend events regularly, membership has many
perks, including lower event fees). We also hold fighter practice on Sunday
afternoons when it is warm
enough, and you are welcome to come watch and learn. For information on
meeting times, check the meetings page,
